On May 15, Jeannette Baljeu, vice-governor of Zuid-Holland Province, Netherlands, led a delegation of sustainable development of water conservancy and urban development to visit Qinhuangdao. They had a field visit to the hydrological forecast of the Taolinkou Reservoir, optimal operation of the reservoir, and the key technology for seepage control for the dam of the reservoir. Meng Xiangwei, secretary of the CPC municipal committee, met with the delegation in the afternoon.
It is reported that Zuid-Holland Province has a close communication with Hebei province, and we have already achieved fruitful cooperation in many fields such as water conservancy, agriculture, environmental protection and education, among which, the Taolinkou Reservoir project is a major cooperative water conservancy program. Meng headed a delegation to visit Zuid-Holland Province in April this year.
Meng Xiangwei, on behalf of the CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Committee, gave a warm welcome to Jeannette Baljeu and her delegation. “I visited Zuid-Holland Province in April this year,” he said, “and your province has made a deep and beautiful impression on me for her urban construction and economic development.”
Meng introduced the basic situation of Qinhuangdao. He said that Qinhuangdao is a famous tourist city in the world, boasting the Old Dragon Head, the starting point of the Great Wall, and Beidaihe Beach, a health resort with world-renown, and thus it captivates around 50 million visitors from home and abroad every year. With the rapid growth of tourism, we will meet higher requirements concerning ecological environment, transportation system and urban quality. Zuid-Holland Province is well known for her water resources management, ecological environment construction, urban design, sponge city construction, new energy application and so on, therefore it is hoped that the two sides could strengthen communication. On the basis of the hydrological forecast of the Taolinkou Reservoir, the optimal operation of the reservoir and the key technology for seepage control of the dam, we could further develop cooperation in facility agriculture, water pollution control and ecological environment management for win-win results.
Jeannette Baljeu expressed thanks to the CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Committee for its warm reception, and to Qinhuangdao government for providing opportunities for Zuid-Holland enterprises to exchange with the Qinhuangdao counterparts. She said that with the changing climate and environment, people are facing a very complex challenge in the ecological environment. Only when more cooperation in the adoption of advanced technology for continuous management of water and atmosphere between enterprises and government is to be carried out, could the living environment, the living standard and the happiness index of the people be improved. She hoped that Qinhuangdao and Zuid-Holland enterprises would have more communications and visits to learn from each other, and cooperate in such fields as urban construction, urban planning, urban design, facility agriculture, environmental protection, water conservancy standardization, in order to help promote the development of Qinhuangdao.
