Recently, Qinhuangdao Urban and Rural Planning Bureau has notified the public about the Qinhuangdao Urban Color Plan project.
In the Plan, dominant colors are specified for each district. You can see whether they match what you think your hometown is like...
Plan Range
The Plan focuses on areas where building color problems are concentrated and need strict control. Specifically, it targets at concentratively constructed areas in five building clusters – Haigang District (including Qinhuangdao Economic and Technological Development Zone), Shanhaiguan District, Beidaihe District, Funing District and Beidaihe New District.
Plan Implementation
In this Plan, principled requirements are raised in regard to building material use, billboard supervision, architectural lighting color management and tourism city image design.
Harbour Cluster – A Fresh and Simple, Elegant and Vibrant District
In the Plan, this cluster is subdivided into five sections: North, Central, South, East, and Shenhe. According to their geographic relation between the mountains and sea, and the different roles they play, the Plan requires different colors.
The Plan requires their building construction in a fresh and vibrant manner. Specifically, it requires light and warm colors as dominant colors for residential buildings, and white as a dominant color for public buildings, so as to build a beautiful and modern district.
It requires red, orange and yellow for residential buildings and commercial service facilities, and white and light blue for public service and transportation facilities.
Shanhaiguan Cluster – An Ancient Cultural District in Gray and White
In the Plan, this cluster is subdivided into Ancient City Area, Daonan Area and Eastern Area. According to their geographic relation with the ancient Shanhaiguan Pass, the Plan requires different colors.
The Plan requires quaint dark gray, light gray and white as dominant colors and vermilion and blue-gray as complementary colors for various kinds of buildings.
Beidaihe Cluster – A Tourist District with Red Tiles and White Walls
This cluster is subdivided into the Seaside Area and the Daihe Area. The Plan requires different colors for the buildings in them according to their different architectural styles.
The Plan requires white walls for red residential buildings and tourist resort buildings in order to contrast sharply with rich and green plants.
The Plan allows embellishing colors to be chosen freely as long as they can reflect architectural styles of various other countries and the features of Qinhuangdao as a tourist city.
Funing Cluster – River, Mountain, Warm and Livable
This cluster is subdivided into Central Area and Yanghe Area. The Plan requires different colors for buildings depending on their different styles and whether they are new or old.
In line with the development orientation of the cluster, the Plan requires warm colors as dominant colors in order to cohere with the vegetation color of the Zijin Mountain. It also requires red or dark gray as dominant colors for the roofs of the buildings.
Beidaihe New Area Cluster — Simple, Elegant, Dynamic, Green and Healthy
This cluster is subdivided into Nandaihe Area, Dapuhe Area and Qilihai Area. The Plan requires different colors for buildings according to their different styles, scales and functions.
It requires that the buildings in this cluster follow the existing features, combine themselves with European, modern and Chinese new architectural styles, and choose warm colors like yellow and grey as dominant colors. It also requires grey, camel and brown as complementary or decorating colors.
