On November 18, the bird rescue and release activity jointly organized by the Forestry Bureau of Beidaihe New District, the College of Agriculture and Biotechnology of Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology, and the Golden Coast National Nature Reserve were launched in the Qilihai Wetland of Beidaihe New District. Precious birds such as kestrel, small striped belly owl, long-eared owl, and short-eared owl were released to nature.
Qinhuangdao is an international bird watching resort and an important migration route for international migratory birds from East Asia to Australia. There are millions of migratory birds crossing the border every year. The Qilihai Wetland in the New District is suitable for releasing birds for foraging and living through winter due to the superior natural environment.
On that day, a total of 10 rare birds of 4 categories were released. After the brief launching ceremony, the primary and secondary school students who participated in the activity slowly opened the cage with the help of the staff of the Beidaihe Yizhan(Unfolding Wing) Bird Rescue Center, and the birds flew freely to the sky when they were ready.
Li Jun, director of the Beidaihe Yizhan Bird Rescue Center, said that the 10 rare birds rescued this time were weak due to food poisoning or exhaustion in the lost. “After being treated carefully through the feeding of nutrients and rehabilitation training, these birds are currently in good physical condition, and have met the conditions for release and the ability to survive in the wild after the approval by the forestry department.” Li said.
“The activity of rescuing and releasing wild birds will surely arouse the awareness of loving and protecting birds in the society, and form a strong atmosphere that the whole society cares about and supports the pollution prevention and the protection of ecological and natural environment.” Li Jun said.
