After the autumn harvest, villagers of Longtan Village, Qinglong Town, Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County, Hebei Province found that the chestnut income this year has increased a lot compared to that of last year.
“Although it is not a good harvest of chestnut this year, but the per capita income of chestnut of the village reached 5,000 yuan, increased 1,000 yuan than that of the last year,” said Feng Jichang, secretary of the party branch of Longtan Village, adding that the “secret” lies in the support from the agricultural experts, who have improved the villagers’ pruning technology of chestnut trees, and the production of chestnut has increased.
As a technical expert, Zhang Jingzheng, an associate professor from the College of Horticulture Science and Technology of Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology, goes to the countryside once a week to train the villagers in techniques of fruit tree breeding and cultivation. At the beginning, villagers wouldn’t accept his training, but now, Zhang becomes very popular among villagers.
“We thought we were good at pruning, but it turned out that Professor Zhang’s pruning technique was more effective. We should learn more from the experts,” said Yao Jianmin, a villager of Longtan Village.
There are countless technical experts like Zhang Jingzheng in Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology. They take root in the countryside, spreading science and technology to the farmers, and solving the problems in agricultural production with professional technology.
Cucumber seedlings are full of vitality in the greenhouse of Jiacheng Industry Group Co., Ltd., Changli County. Chairman Zhang Zhigang said that the “Lvdao No.7” cucumbers in the park are different from ordinary cucumbers. Because of its good quality and taste, the price of one cucumber is 10 yuan, and the supply is not adequate to the demand.
“Lvdao No.7” is an achievement of Yan Liying, a technical expert of Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology, and her team carrying out scientific and technological services in the countryside, which solved the problems of mixed degradation of dry-land cucumber varieties and a significant decline in planting benefits.
“Agriculture is the dominant discipline of our university, and serving the agriculture, rural areas, and farmers is the mission of agricultural universities. The technical experts should remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind, take root in the countryside, and continue to transform the technology into real productivity, so as to solves problems of the farmers, and improve the development of agriculture and rural areas,” said Yan Liying.
Since the implementation of the technical expert system in 2004, Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology has been devoting to the poverty relief through science and education, and serving the local economy for transformation. Up to now, there are 47 technical expert groups in Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology, covering 38 industries and 11 cities in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, which effectively promoted the development of the agricultural industry, increased farmers production and income, and made great contribution to poverty relief and rural revitalization.
