At noon on January 17, Liu, a villager in Xiazhai Village, Lulong County, got a lift after shopping in the downtown of the county with new year goods. He sat comfortably in the private car marked a sticker of “free ride takes you home”, and thanked the driver.
Ms. Cui, the owner of the private car, is a member of Yishanxing Public Service Center, which has offered free ride for those in need during the Spring Festival for two consecutive years.
According to Du Chengzhang, the team leader, on January 11, the service center held the launching ceremony for this year’s activity of “free ride takes you home” in the Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County. A total of 70 private cars with stickers participated in the event. From January 11 to February 23, 2020, citizens in need can be offered free lift as long as the drivers are not out of their way. “We want to ease the pressure of the traffic during the Spring Festival while facilitating the citizens.”
“We didn’t count how many people we have helped, but many team members have offered free lifts in a week since the launching of the activity,” said Du Chengzhang, adding that sometimes when they saw people waiting on the street, the team members would get out of the car and ask if they need help. Some citizens would be glad to see them again, and came over to the driver when they saw the sticker, and they would never be refused as long as they are in the same route.
There are more than 300 members in the service center. In addition to the large-scale public welfare activity of “free ride takes you home” during the Spring Festival each year, the service center also cooperates with the Jiangsu Foundation for the Elderly to carry out activities of poverty alleviation and learning support.
