Qinhuangdao (The Great Wall Network/Reporter Zu Di, correspondent Niu Chunfu, Wang Zhiyong, Wang Ruihong)-- After the Beginning of Spring(the first solar term), it is getting warm, and it is a good season for spring ploughing. In the past few days, Changli government has scientifically guided farmers to develop spring ploughing while taking effective measures to strictly prevent and control the novel coronavirus pneumonia.
Good season for potato planting
On February 17, Zhang Haihua, villager of the No. 2 Peigezhuang village, Xinji Town, picked up farm tools and went out early in the morning together with his family, to plant potatoes in their greenhouses after measuring body temperature and learning about the precautions for the epidemic prevention at the village checkpoint .
“This is the last greenhouse, and we feel relaxed after having this finished!” said Zhang Haihua, who was covering the potato in the greenhouse. “This year, we have a total of 22 potato greenhouses. We couldn’t hire people due to the epidemic prevention and control, and thanks to the mutual-aid team established by the village, we didn’t miss the season.”

“If you miss the right moment, you miss the whole year. It is at crucial period now for the epidemic prevention and control, and the spring ploughing can not be delayed!” said Li Guoquan, secretary of the village party branch, adding that in order to make the spring ploughing safe, the village had been circularly broadcasting the epidemic prevention precautions during the spring ploughing. “Villagers are required to wear masks when farming, working in different time periods and in different places. We also implement prevention and control measures door-to-door.”
Li Guoquan also said that it is a critical period for the epidemic prevention and control. The village committees advocated villagers not to employ people in spring ploughing, and work on the family basis. In order to solve the problem of insufficient manpower for large-scale farmers and old and weak farmers, the village committees organized some party members, activists and mass volunteers in the village to establish 7 “spring ploughing mutual-aid teams”, with 3 or 4 people in each team, to help those in need.

Cui Jirong, a staff member of the Vegetable Station of the County Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, told reporter that potato planting is a characteristic agricultural industry in Changli County, and this is a good season for sowing. Due to the impact of the epidemic, agricultural technicians at all levels throughout the county took full advantage of telephone, WeChat, and online chat to guide agricultural production, and made every effort to ensure the spring ploughing in an orderly manner during the epidemic. At present, 20,000 mu of potatoes in the county has been planted, another 80,000 mu of mulched potatoes will soon be planted.
Greenhouse vegetables grow well
Although it is still cold outside, it is as warm as spring inside the greenhouse. It is a critical period for the epidemic prevention and control now, and also an important time for fruit and vegetable management in greenhouses. Farmers are actively carrying out spring ploughing production, and some agricultural cooperatives are also trying to maintain normal production.

In the greenhouse of the Jiacheng Vegetable Base, reporter saw that various vegetables and fruits were growing well in dozens of greenhouses, strawberries and tomatoes that were gradually ripening began to be picked, and dry cucumbers were in the period of thinning flowers and fruits ... but compared with previous years, the difference is that the workers in the greenhouses are wearing masks, picking and managing fruits and vegetables in different parts of the greenhouse.

“We require workers to take strict protective measures, wear masks, take body temperature, keep a certain distance, and have meal in different time and places.” said Li Xiangli, director of Jiacheng Vegetable Base, adding that the company has formulated strict epidemic prevention and control measures, and arranged special personnel to disinfect the park and the buffer room twice a day, and disinfect the workers and tools. At the same time, a staff responsibility system was established, each person was responsible for some greenhouses according to the variety of fruits and vegetables, which changed the mode of several people working in the same greenhouse at the same time. Although it was a bit more busy than before, it helped to avoid personnel contact to the greatest extent.

Including the Jiacheng vegetable base, the whole county can produce more than 1,300 tons of cucumbers, tomatoes, leeks, celery and stored cabbages, radishes, and other vegetables, which can also supply vegetable markets in surrounding counties.
Sufficient agricultural materials for spring ploughing
The agricultural materials are the prerequisite for the spring ploughing. On February 17, the reporter saw at Xinji Agricultural Materials Operation Center that all kinds of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and other agricultural materials were available. Thousands of tons of agricultural materials filled the entire store.

“The agricultural materials are critical to guarantee the spring ploughing production.” said Tian Zheng, director of the agricultural materials center, adding that in order to guarantee the spring ploughing, the agricultural materials center has reserved agricultural materials before the Spring Festival, with almost the same amount of previous years, the agricultural materials can guarantee the spring ploughing demand of the town in despite of the epidemic.
While doing a good job in reserve and sales of agricultural materials, the agricultural materials center disinfects at least three times a day, and requires farmers who come to buy agricultural materials to wear masks and take body temperatures.
In order to avoid personnel flow and contact as much as possible, all the agricultural material shops in the county offer distribution and sales services, using online ordering and offline distribution to delivery agricultural materials to farmers who orders at home through WeChat, telephone, Internet, etc., then the agricultural material shops directly deliver the required agricultural materials to the field by special delivery vehicles and people. In addition, the distribution vehicles and personnel are disinfected each time, and the deliverymen don’t get off during the process to avoid contacting and cross infection, which can block the transmission of the epidemic.
The county’s supply and marketing system makes full use of the advantages of more than 20 large-scale agricultural materials operation and service outlets, serving the spring ploughing agricultural production, and guaranteeing agricultural material reserves. At present, there are a total of more than 70,000 tons of various types of high-quality chemical fertilizers, and sufficient seeds and pesticide, which can guarantee the material requirements for spring ploughing production throughout the county.
