Hebei News Network (Correspondent Wang Ge)--Two years ago, the demolition and reconstruction of Xijie Village, Funing District, Qinhuangdao City attracted people’s attention because of a peony tree in He Shuanglin’s courtyard.
This peony tree has been living for more than 100 years and still thrives due to the good care taken by the four generations of his family. Mr. He invited people to appreciate the peony when it blooms in May, “I want more people to appreciate it in case the demolition would destroy it.”
The century-old peony blooms again while the new buildings in Xijie Village are rising up, and the entire residential area has been renewed. “It blooms as if it is offering congratulations to us, it is really amazing.” Wen Fengmei smiled, who has taken care of the peony for 34 years and it impressed her the most this year, “Although the construction is underway all round, it still blooms, how super-vital it is.”
Experts from Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology approved that the age of the peony tree is about 140 years old, a third-class ancient tree, hoping to give more protection to it.
This century-old peony to be moved out will soon be integrated into the new look of the city, and it will become a beautiful memory of the city if it survives the changes of time.
