Thousands of mu of Chinese medical herbs are blooming in the Chinese herbal medicine planting base in Xiazhai Town, Lulong County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, in which workers are weeding and loosening the soil.
“I can earn 30,000 yuan a year, including 300 yuan per mu of land leasing, and working income of 90 yuan per day, much better than tilling the land.” Rejoiced Liu Xingcheng, a farmer who works in the herbal medicine planting base. The Chinese herb planting needs more people due to the slow benefit returning and long planting time. Villagers get rental income of land leasing and working income, which not only promotes the development of the village collective economy, but also helps the poor people get rid of poverty and become rich.
The Chinese herbal medicine planting base in Xiazhai Township covers an area of more than 1,000 mu, planting Chinese herbs. In accordance with the idea of building bases, expanding scale and markets, they took the model of “company + base + farmers”, to encourage neighboring farmers to join, created more than 80 employments for villagers, and gained the labor income of more than 1.8 million yuan. At the same time, they explored new models, to inter plant corns and peanuts among medicinal herbs, giving full play to the comprehensive benefits of the land, and increasing the output value. At present, the profit has reached more than 10,000 yuan per mu of Chinese herbal medicine base.
“In the next step, we will expand the scale to attract more villagers to join, and help the surrounding villagers to become rich. We will also conduct in-depth research on the development and changes of the medicinal herb market, extensively collect market information, select suitable varieties, and form a distinctive and competitive leading enterprise.” The head of the base Jiang Kun said.
In recent years, Lulong County, relying on the construction of Beidaihe Innovation Demonstration Zone for Life and Health Industry, has vigorously developed the integrated high-end health industry of “medical treatment, medication, recuperation, health care, and tourism”. At present, the Chinese herbal medicine planting area has reached more than 5,000 mu, and 11 bases exceed 300 mu. The main varieties are Schisandra, Scutellaria, Pulsatilla, Cordyceps, Astragalus, Honeysuckle, Salvia, etc. The authentic medicinal herbs include Scutellaria, Pulsatilla, and honeysuckle.
Lulong County will build a batch of high-standard demonstration areas for Chinese herbal medicine planting, and vigorously develop the Chinese medicine industry such as health drinks, Chinese herbal medicine pieces and Chinese medicine preparations. At the same time, the industry chain will be further extended, to create a health care and tourism industry integrating local mountains and waters, traditional Chinese medical culture, and recuperation vacation.
