Qinhuangdao is an important eco-tourism city in the Bohai Bay, attracting numerous tourists at home and abroad. Beidaihe District of Qinhuangdao City has carried out ecological restoration of rivers into the sea, such as the Daihe River, Xinhe River and Puhe River, to fundamentally improve the ecological environment, so that citizens and tourists can enjoy the clear rivers and beautiful coasts.

River improvement is the premise of the sea protection. On the basis of comprehensive management of sewage discharge by enterprises in Qinhuangdao City, Beidaihe District has taken the management of mixed flow of rain and sewage in villages along rivers as the priority.
Yang Shutian, villager of Dingzhuang Village, Beidaihe District, has sewage pipeline installed in his house.“Now we can discharge sewage into the pipeline.” He said. Yang Baojiang, a leader of the village, said that the pipeline has been installed in all of the 630 families, and the rain and sewage diversion was realized.
“After the completion of rain and sewage diversion, the domestic sewage of more than 10 villages along rivers in Beidaihe District will be fully covered and connected to the grid, which is helpful to the ecological restoration of the Daihe River.”said Bai Tao, deputy director of the Bureau of Housing and Urban-rural Construction of Beidaihe District.

At present, the riverbed dredging project, and the riverside water landscape project closely related to the village industry of the ecological restoration in the lower reaches of the Daihe River have been completed. More than 30,000 reeds were planted, to protect the slopes on both sides of the Daihe River. The newly planted aquatic plants at the riverbed are also becoming green. The total length of ecological restoration in the lower reaches of the Daihe River is about 12 km, mainly including river dredging, sewage interception, rain and sewage diversion pipelines, bank greening, and biological control, etc.

In recent years, in accordance with the concept of improving the rivers according to natural ecology, Beidaihe District has dredged the Daihe River, Xinhe River, Puhe River, and more than 10 tributaries and flood drainage ditches, cleaned up garbage, maintained the banks and riverbeds, and set up nets to intercept the debris and garbage floating on the rivers. The Implementation Plan for River Cleaning in Beidaihe District was formulated. The system of river chief and bay chief was implemented. The drainage ditches (outlets) along the coastal lines and rivers were thoroughly investigated. The breeding farms in the no-breeding area were closed and relocated. The waste of large-scale breeding farms in the restricted-breeding area was treated as required. The planting structure along the rivers has been continuously optimized and adjusted, and chemical fertilizers and pesticides were halted. At the same time, Beidaihe District has also continuously strengthened the monitoring of the ecological environment in the coastal waters, improved the comprehensive management of land and sea, cracked down on the illegal discharge of sewage along the rivers, and prevented the mixed flow of rain and sewage, and the sewage into the rivers and the sea.
