Recently, the list of Outstanding Structure Award of International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering(2020) was announced. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Harrow Grand Bridge in Norway, which were built by China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group Co., Ltd., won the award. .
The International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering was established in 1929, and currently has more than 3,000 members from more than 100 countries and regions. It is an international civil society with the most member states. The association established the Outstanding Structure Award in 1998, and 1 to 4 projects of bridge or structural engineering are awarded this honor each year. It represents the technological innovation and engineering creation of bridges and structures around the world.
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the longest cross-sea bridge in the world, and the first super-large cross-sea transportation project jointly built by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. The bridge meets the highest construction standards of the mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau. The harsh geology, sea conditions, and weather at the bridge site make it one of the most difficult bridge projects in the world, which is hailed by The Guardian as one of the “Seven Wonders of the Modern World”. The steel box girders of the bridge use more than 400,000 tons of steel, which weighs about 60 Eiffel Towers. It is the first project to use large-scale steel box girders in the world. CRSBG manufactured the steel box girder for the largest section of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, with approximately 180,000 tons of steel structure. CRSBG took the lead in the research of plate unit automatic manufacturing and welding technology of bridge steel box girder, developed professional plate unit manufacturing technology with automation, information and intelligence as the main means, promoted the welding quality and stability of U-shaped ribs, improved the manufacturing quality of the steel box girder plate unit, and extended the service life of the bridge.
The Harrow Grand Bridge is located in Narvik, a port city in northern Norway, across the Ofotfjorden in northern Norway, 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. It is a highway steel box girder suspension bridge with a length of 1,533 meters, of which the main span is 1,145 meters. It adopts a unique irregular space main cable design, which meets the world’s top anti-corrosion requirements. The elites from CRSBG solved technical problems such as deformation control of thin steel box girder, 100% radiographic inspection qualification rate of U-rib butt welds, cleanliness before painting, salt control, drawing force of zinc layer, and protection of large-segment finished products. It took 3 years to complete the segment manufacturing, which was highly recognized by the supervisor and the Norwegian owner. The Harrow Grand Bridge is an important passage connecting Norway and the west coast of Sweden, and it will also become a new landmark and new business card for Norway.
