On August 8, 100 intangible cultural heritage products of Hebei Province, including Wuqiao Stone Shadow Carving, Wuqiang Block-printed Chinese New Year Picture, Bazhou Antique Porcelain, Weichang Manchu Embroidery, Dingji Rattan Art, and Jingxing Cangxiang Yuping Bag etc., appeared on the South Street of Shanhaiguan Ancient City. The local handicrafts of Hebei Province attracted many tourists.
“All my works are mainly made of reeds.” In front of the Baiyangdian Reeds exhibition booth from Xiong’an New District, Yang Bingjun, the fourth-generation inheritor of Baiyangdian Reeds, is introducing his works to the reporter-- an animate rooster with colorful feathers. “All of my works are not dyed. I select different colors of reeds to create the layered effect. And the three-dimensional texture was carved and knitted by the workers. We present natural works with traditional techniques.”

“The handmade cloth shoes mean safe and sound, and best wishes to the next generation...” At the foot of the Shanhaiguan Bell and Drum Tower, Jiang Lijuan, the fifth-generation hand-made buckle inheritor, is introducing her embroidered bull-head shoes to the tourists. Zhang Xiaotong, a tourist from Tianjin, bought a pair of handmade bull-head shoes at a price of 200 yuan, and she is fond of them. She said that she had been pregnant, and the baby will be born next year--the year of OX, “My husband and I love the auspicious meaning of the shoes. I hope everything goes well to my baby.”
Jiang Lijuan is 65 years old, she said that she had taken Dai Lingshan, a student of 3rd grade of the No. 2 Primary School in Qinhuangdao Economic and Technological Development Zone, as her youngest apprentice on August 9. “I am 65 years old, and I do wish the craftsmanship left by our ancestors would pass on. Dai Lingshan loved to make crafts since she was a little girl, and I’d like to teach her."
At the Baoding Mazishi Pottery booth, the mugs made with traditional crafts attracted people’s attention.“The Mazishi pottery has been recorded since the Tang Dynasty. It has a history of more than 1,000 years. It used to make large basins and vats. I came up with the idea to make mugs with intangible heritage techniques, making new products with old methods, injecting new vitality into each other, that is the way to inherit the craftsmanship, and increase sales.” said Cui Liqiang, the intangible heritage inheritor.
This event will be held from August 8 to 11, covering sculpture and paper cutting, printing and painting, forging and ceramics, knitting and dyeing, and Chinese traditional medicine, hundred of inheritors will present their unique skills in Shanhaiguan ancient city, to show the beauty of traditional skills.
