With the sound of a whistle, the 2020 Meisha Education National Youth Sailing League Qinhuangdao Station starts at Weilan Hai’an in Beidaihe New District on August 24. This is the opening game of the 2020 Qinhuangdao Sailing Season, and the first national-level event held in Qinhuangdao this year.
With the consent of the Chinese Yachting Association, Qinhuangdao City will host the “Sino-ocean · Weilan Hai’an Cup 2020 Qinhuangdao Sailing Season in Beidaihe New District from August to September 2020, including the 2020 National Sailing Championships, National Windsurfing Championships, and other 2 national events, a provincial sailing event, the “Hope Cup” Qinhuangdao primary and middle school student sailing competition, a sailing exchange event of families in Qinhuangdao, Beijing and Shenzhen, an interactive activity of “Ten Thousand Talents Training Program” among the national sailing team and the young players of Qinhuangdao City, an opening ceremony of nautical venues, and a 10-day nautical theme carnival.
The sailing season is hosted by Chinese Yachting Association, the Sports Bureau of Hebei Province, and Qinhuangdao Municipal Government, and undertaken by the Water Sports Management Center of Sports Bureau of Hebei Province, the Sports Bureau of Qinhuangdao City, Beidaihe New District Management Committee, and Sino-ocean Group, aiming to promote the development of sailing sports, sports industry and tourism industry, and lay the foundation for Qinhuangdao to build the first-class sailing tourism city.
At the opening ceremony, Liu Weidong, secretary general of the Chinese Yachting Association, said that the “2020 Qinhuangdao Sailing Season” is currently the longest and largest series of events in China. The organizing committee took the National Youth Sailing League as the first event through careful arrangement and planning, which also confirmed the theme of this event--the future belongs to the children, and the future of Chinese sailing lies in the teenagers. “These children are our future, they are the ones who drive the ship of Chinese sailing to sail forward smoothly.” Liu Weidong said.
It has been six years since the establishment of the Meisha Education National Youth Sailing League, which has flourished with the strong support and active participation of many youth sailing clubs across the country. The scale of the competition has gradually expanded and the overall level has improved year by year. It has become one of the young athletes’ favorites in China, which not only is the best event of Chinese youth amateur sailing, but also shows the development process of Chinese youth sailing. It effectively promotes the youth sailing, and trains talents for a maritime power, and a strong nation of sailing sports.
64 young athletes from Beijing Navigation Center, Wanhang Sailing Team, and Meisha Sailing Team will compete for the championships in 6 groups for Topper4.2, Topper5.3, and Laser4.7.
