Sponsored by the Qinhuangdao Association of Science and Technology, and organized by the Qinhuangdao Education Association of Youth Science and Technology and the Qinhuangdao No. 1 Middle School, the 12th Hebei Youth Robot Competition Qinhuangdao Division kicked off on the fourth floor of the Science and Technology Building of Qinhuangdao No. 1 Middle School. Seventy-five players of 17 teams from 8 counties and districts across the city competed online with young students from across Hebei province.
Contestants participated in the Robot Comprehensive Skills Competition, the VEX Robot Engineering Challenge, the Education Robot Engineering Challenge, and the WRO (Word Robot Olympiad) regular season, and the robot creative competition will be held on Oct 31 through the online reply.
During the competition, the players worked on their preparations and cheered for other contestants. The VEX robot completes complex actions following the command of the manipulator; the players in comprehensive skill competition write programs on-site according to the layout of the new venue; the education robot players applauded upon seeing the robot autonomously complete the preset tasks; the young players in WRO burst into laughter from time to time.
After the fierce competition in the morning, the scores of the young players were recorded to the competition work platform. Four out of 17 teams from Qinhuangdao City won the first prizes, 8 second prizes, and 5 third prizes. The first prize winners will attend the national competition next year.
The 12th Hebei Youth Robot Competition is co-sponsored by the Hebei Association of Science and Technology and the Department of Education of Hebei Province, aiming to promote science and technology education among primary and middle school students, in hope of fostering their innovation awareness and ability through competition, enhance teamwork awareness, and improve scientific literacy.
These competitions have groups of primary school, junior high school and senior high school, with the exception of WRO regular competition which only has groups of primary school and junior high school.
The competition was conducted simultaneously across the province in the form of live broadcasting online, with the model of “online connection, offline competition, and remote monitoring”, divisions and online management centers were set up in each city to ensure the success and justice of the event.
According to the leader of the Qinhuangdao Association of Science and Technology, in recent years, the Association has actively held youth robot competitions with the aim of cultivating youth’s innovative spirit and improving their scientific and technological literacy. With the support of the society, the youth robot competition in Qinhuangdao City has greatly improved and increasingly attracted young robot enthusiasts to participate, it has become a highly influential technology brand favored by the young people who actively participate in provincial and national competitions, and have won many honors with excellent results.
