The Slussen Bridge in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, was officially opened to traffic. The CRSBG(China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group Co., Ltd), a bridge manufacturer in Qinhuangdao, Hebei, has produced all the steel structures of this bridge. This is also the ninth steel bridge project built by CRSBG in the European market.
A new look of the “Golden Bridge”
The Slussen Bridge is located in the center of Stockholm, at the interchange of the Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. It connects the northern and southern parts of the Swedish capital. It is named “Golden Bridge” because of its golden surface. It is a well-known ship lock and a confluence point at the core of Stockholm’s land and water transportation. Approximately 480,000 people pass by there every day. The new bridge will become the main traffic bridge integrating railways, highways, cycle ways and sidewalks, replacing the original two old bridges.
The Slussen was once the first ship lock built in Sweden. It has a history of 378 years and is rebuilt every century. The new bridge is the fifth-generation one.
The Slussen Bridge is a giant bridge with variable cross-section steel box girder that combines bridge and tunnel. It has high requirements for materials and technology. An underpass is set in the middle of the bridge deck. The length of the bridge is 140 meters, the width 45 meters, and the maximum span of the central part 58 meters. The bridge has 3 traffic lanes, with the weight of 3,400 tons, and service span of 120 years.
“Golden Bridge” is made by CRSBG
In the international bidding of the Sweden’s Slussen “Golden Bridge” in 2017, China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group Co., Ltd, as the only company with complete international quality certification and rich bridge building experience that meets the requirements of quality and construction period of the Stockholm City Government, beat two European companies and won the contract.

China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group Co., Ltd won the bid at the end of 2017 and completed the bridge in 2019. The steel box girder section of the Slussen Bridge has a total weight of 3,400 tons, with the length of 138.5 meters, width of 45 meters and height of 7.5 meters. Steel box girder manufacturing consists of plate units, segments, and bridge assembly, which were transported to Sweden to finish the whole work. The CRSBG worked hard and cooperated with relevant departments to meet the schedule and deliver high-quality products, despite of the challenges such as huge volume, turning over the beam sections, high standards for painting, welding stainless steel, and overall transportation.
The Sweden’s “Golden Bridge” is under construction.
At the end of 2019, all of the parts of the bridge have been completed, then were shipped to Sweden and arrived in Stockholm on March 11, 2020 after 70 days, a journey of 20,333 kilometers from China by the way of the southern Indian Ocean, the Suez Canal, the Mediterranean, the English Channel and the Baltic Sea.
