On the afternoon of November 6, thirty bird watching enthusiasts came to the Pigeon Nest Wetland for watching the migration of cranes and oriental white stork. “I am filled with a sense of awe to the nature every time I see magnificent wonders. I am so lucky to live in Qinhuangdao.” said Mr. Zhang, a member of the Qinhuangdao Association of Birding Watching (Lovers).
Qinhuangdao City is located at the foot of Yanshan Mountain and by the Bohai Sea, which is an important channel for migratory birds. Every spring and autumn, hundreds of thousands of migratory birds fly over Qinhuangdao on their journey.
“Our city is the best place to watch the beautiful scenery of cranes and the oriental white storks’ migration in China and even in the world. You may see them when you look out of the window, several in a flock, or even scores or hundreds sometimes, twittering and flying in line in the wind.” said Wang Wenguo, a senior member of the Qinhuangdao Association of Birding Watching (Lovers), who recorded the beautiful scenery of the oriental white storks flying over the Great Wall, and the white cranes, red-crowned cranes, and hoar-headed cranes flying over coastal wetlands at the 2019 Crane Watching Festival.
According to Wang Wenguo, bird watching enthusiasts in Qinhuangdao come here for bird watching at this season for many years, and the number of watchers hit a new high last year. “Many students came to watch and learned a lot of natural knowledge while watching the migratory birds.” said Wang Wenguo, adding that through bird watching, students can not only get close to and learn about nature, but also stimulate their interest in natural science exploration. .
The Crane Watching Festival has been supported by numerous bird watchers since it was launched in late October. The investigators of the Qinhuangdao Association of Bird Watching (Lovers) greeted them at the Pigeon Nest Wetland and Shanhaiguan with professional bird watching telescopes, and provide them with professional services.
This event highlights public participation and professional survey. On the basis of the crane survey in 2019, more observation sites have been established at important nodes along the coast for the convenience of bird watchers. The 2020 Crane Watching Festival will end on November 20.
