“There are two automated vermicelli production lines with total value of nearly 5 million yuan. Each line produces vermicelli of 30 tons a day. Today only one production line is running because of the cloudy weather which is not good for drying.” said Li Shuangbin, manager of the Shenteng Food Co., Ltd. in Longjiadian Township, Changli County on November 17.
Longjiadian is listed among the tenth batch of national demonstration villages and towns for “One Village, One Product” announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. As the largest vermicelli production and processing base in China, Changli county boasts more than 80 vermicelli processing enterprises, including 22 in Longjiadian Township, and Shenteng Food Co., Ltd. is one of the leading ones.
In the vermicelli automatic processing workshop, workers are busy with their own jobs such as adding starch into the feeding inlet, removing vermicelli from the outlet to the drying rack, and delivering them out of the workshop. “It takes less than 3 minutes for one outlet to produce 1.5 kg of vermicelli.” said Liang Fuxiang while doing his job with skillful movements, adding that there are dozens of procedures during the whole process including starch purifying, mixing, filtering, moulding, freezing, washing, and drying. Manager Li Shuangbin said that as a large-scale agricultural product deep-processing enterprise, their vermicelli products are mainly exported to South Korea, Japan, and the United States. The annual tax payment is about 1.5 million yuan, and earning foreign exchange through export of is more than 7 million yuan.
In the finished vermicelli storage warehouse and the sorting and packaging workshop, workers wearing blue uniform and masks are delivering materials through the conveyer belt, sorting and removing the defective vermicelli products, or packing and stacking them in the finished product storage room. “This batch of goods is for South Korea. 4 containers of 70 tons of sweet potato vermicelli are delivered every week.” said Li Shuangbin, adding that they were among the first batch of enterprises in Hebei Province to resume work and operation during the epidemic prevention and control period, with little impact on the production.
According to Li Shuangbin, Shenteng Foods Co., Ltd. was founded by Li Zhenyou, his father, in the early 1990s. At that time, the plant was small with poor conditions and low productions. With the increasingly strong market demand, they gradually adjusted their orientation and production layout, and the production capacity continued to improve especially after they decided to be an export processing enterprise, and the production capacity has continued to increase since then. At present, the company covers an area of more than 40 mu, and has become a modern agricultural producing and processing enterprise with two production lines, storage warehouses, finished product warehouses, packaging workshops and office areas. The company has an annual output of vermicelli of about 6,000 tons, and was rated as a key export agricultural product processing enterprise by Hebei Province in 2000.
How to reduce and avoid pollution and harm to the environment in the production process? When asked by the reporter, Li Shuangbin said, “The vermicelli producing makes little pollution to the environment, only a small amount of cooling water will be drained which does no harm to the nature. It is a green and environment-friendly agricultural processing enterprise with promising prospects. Our production workshops are equipped with cameras for online environmental monitoring, so that environmental protection personnel can monitor accurate environmental data at any time.”
Longjiadian Township is located 10 kilometers west of Changli County, with convenient transportation and advantageous geographical location. More than 80% of the population is engaged in vermicelli production or related work, a new industrial chain has emerged integrating raw material planting, starch processing, vermicelli production, market services, commerce and logistics, and foreign exchange earning from export. In each year, the vermicelli processing industry consumes more than 30,000 tons of potatoes, 30,000 tons of sweet potato starch, and 240,000 tons of tapioca starch. The annual output value is 140 million yuan, and the average household income is 5,666 yuan. It is a pillar industry that makes the county stronger and people richer.
