The 2nd Joint Exhibition of Rongbaozhai Antiques-the Newly-discovered Scriptures of Zhao Cheng Jin Zang and the Important Classics of the Tang and Song Dynasties kicked off at Haotian Art Museum in Beidaihe New District. This is another cultural feast after the “2020 Joint Exhibition of Golden Autumn Millennium Painting and Calligraphy” on September 26.
The event was hosted by the Management Committee of Beidaihe New District, Beijing Rongbaozhai, Jinling Museum, and Haotian Art Museum, and undertaken by the Bureau of Tourism Culture, Radio, Film, Television and Sports of Beidaihe New District, Hollywood Magic City, and Dunhuang Culture Network. Zhao Shiguo, member and investigator of the Working Committee of Beidaihe New District, attended the opening ceremony.
Zhao Cheng Jin Zang is hailed as “the only copy extant in the world”. The volume 8 of the Lotus Sutra is 19 meters long, written on the paper made in the Yuan Dynasty, with the swallow tail end, and it is kept well. Complementary with the volume 2 and 5 of the Lotus Sutra in the Zhao Cheng Jin Zang. It is an important document for the study of Zhao Cheng Jin Zang. Ren Jiyu, former director of the National Library of China, said that it is a world-class cultural heritage more than a national treasure of China.
According to Li Linhao, manager of Auction Department of Beijing Rongbao, the 4,800-volume Zhao Cheng Jin Zang, is one of the four major collections of the National Library of China, the other three are Si Ku Quan Shu, Dun Huang Yi Shu and Yong Le Da Dian. Zhao Cheng Jin Zang is a national treasure and a world-class cultural heritage. It is the earliest and most complete Buddhist Tripitaka we can see now, and an encyclopedia completed by engraving printing, covering philosophy, history, linguistics, philology, architecture, and medicine.
The Zhao Cheng refers to Zhaocheng County in Shanxi Province, “Jin” refers to the Jin Dynasty, and “Zang” means Tripitaka. Zhao Cheng Jin Zang, a copy of Kai Bao Zang engraved in the 12th century, has been secretly stored at Guangsheng Temple in Zhaocheng County for 800 years, and was discovered in the 1930s. The exhibition in Beidaihe New District is the last stop followed by Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Shanxi, telling the story behind the ancient cultural relics to the general public.
There are nearly 10,000 important classics in the exhibition, including collections of royal families in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, four literary classics in ancient China with illustrations, “Laws of the Qing Dynasty”, and Buddhist classics of the Song and Yuan Dynasties. The exhibition provides Qinhuangdao people with a cultural feast in winter.
