A few days ago, the finals of 2020 World Robot Contest were successfully concluded in Foshan city, Guangdong province. Three teams from the Youth Activity Center of Haigang District, Qinhuangdao City competed with other outstanding youth teams in the robotics field from all over the country. The super track team composed of Zhao Boyan and Zhao Siyuan won the first prize of the junior middle school group of the teenager robot design contest. The enjoyAI team A composed of Tun Xiwen and Li Muchen, and the enjoyAI team B composed of Ren Yikun and Li Che won the second prize of the primary school group.
Hosted by the Chinese Institute of Electronics, the World Robot Contest has been held for five consecutive sessions since 2015. It is hailed as the “Olympics” in the robotics sector. More than 120,000 contestants from over 20 countries took part in this contest. The finals were divided into categories of scientific research, skills, and popular science, consisting of the Robot Challenge, BCI Brain-controlled Robot Contest, Robot Application Contest, and Teenager Robot Design Contest.
These kids have been trained for one year during their spare time by the center teachers, and debugged and improved the participating robots over and over again. During the contest, they did well together with their calmness and wisdom. It was the first time for the two teams of the primary school group to participate in this contest, and make some mistakes in the first round due to the lack of experience. They didn’t give up and kept going, and achieved good result in the end.
Aiming to cultivate scientific interest, improve scientific literacy, and foster innovation capabilities, the Youth Activity Center of Haigang District has established a base for teenager science and technology training, offering primary and secondary school students courses such as robots, software programming, maker, model making, and scientific experiments, striving to cultivate innovative talents with comprehensive qualities, outstanding specialties and innovative spirits. In recent years, the team members from the training base have made outstanding achievements in various science and technology competitions at all levels, including 48 national awards, 506 provincial awards, and 788 municipal awards.
