Salute the most beautiful heroes in harm’s way! A woman from Qinhuangdao made two 20.20-meter scroll paintings from cans with 10-month hard working.
Cans, the common wastes in our daily life, were turned into exquisite paintings of 20.20 meters long by Li Ping.
“The number 20.20 represents the year of 2020. One of the two scrolls themed the fighting against COVID-19 pandemic in the first half of the year, and the other themed the fighting against floods by officers and soldiers this summer.” said Li Ping who spent 10 month in her unique way recording two major events happened this year.
Different from other paintings, Li Ping’s paintings were made of aluminum foil of cans. “I watched a TV show making paintings with cans. During the epidemic period, I had to stay at home and thought of doing something for the warriors fighting on the front line.” said Li Ping, adding that she found many cans left over from the family banquet, and decided to take them as the painting materials.
On the morning of December 16, we appreciated her works in the drivers school of the Bureau of Labor located at No. 286, Haiyang Road. Unfolding the scrolls stacked in the shape of a book, we found that the two scrolls have a red background with yellow edges and a blue background with yellow edges, respectively. The paintings made of aluminum foil have a silver-white metallic luster. There are 78 works in these two long scrolls.

Li Ping has a special online nickname called “Invincible Justice”. “My mother-in-law was in the Northeast Anti-Japanese Army, and I have special feeling to heroes, we can live a happy and peaceful life just because of them.” said Li Ping, adding that her works are originated from her hero affections, and she hopes to pass forward the positive energy of the heroes in harm’s way with her paintings.
Li Ping and her families have also been practicing the spirit of the heroes in harm’s way. They have done a lot of good deeds that have been reported by mainstream media in Qinhuangdao. Li Ping’s husband Liu Yunao, a traffic policeman, once participated in the firefighting raging at the Qinhuangdao Railway Station; her eldest daughter Liu Yingying bravely stopped a traffic accident caused by an uncontrolled car when she was only 12 years old in 2011; her youngest daughter Liu Meiying was rated as a good teenager in the new era when she was in primary school because she helped a 90-year-old man with her mother.
The deeds of heroes in harm’s way during the outbreak of the epidemic in February 2020 inspired Li Ping, and her family gave her great support.
Li Ping collected materials and made beautiful aluminum foil paintings with scissors, ballpoint pens and other tools. Li Ping said, “The picture of Zhong Nanshan is my favorite, he looks glamorous striding forward with a smile on his face.”

When it comes to the creative process of these paintings, Li Ping said that the first step is to cut with scissors, which is the most important part. Every edge should be smooth without burrs; then paint three-dimensional parts with ballpoint pen and stick them on the bottom board.
“The aluminum foil is very sharp, so I have to be very careful or I might get hurt. It’s tough but I feel pleased when I have accomplished it.” said Li Ping, adding that making these paintings is not easy, but it has a lot of fun, and it opens her soul as well.
