On February 14(the third day of the Lunar New Year), the first snow of the year of Xinchou coated Qinhuangdao in white. At about 7 o’clock, Wang Guijun, a villager in Fangzhuang Village, Shimenzhai Township, Haigang District, got up and opened his small supermarket, while his daughter-in-law went to work in the Laojunding Scenic Spot.
Fangzhuang Village is no more than an ordinary small mountain village until 2012. They developed tourism based on the natural resources of mountains and rivers, going in for mountain rafting, picking gardens, winter skiing and other projects. At the same time, they established cooperatives to open homestays and sell villagers’ fruits and wild vegetables. Villagers from 20 years old to 70 years old engaged in tourism, as long as they are willing to work.
Considering the increasing number of tourists, 56-year-old Wang Guijun and his wife opened a small supermarket in their 30-square-meter room at the end of December last year.
“Tourists and villagers came here to buy stuff. I have earned more than 20,000 yuan in gross during the 2 months.” Wang Guijun said.
Wang Guijun’s house boasts big color TV, air purifier, antique furniture, and flush toilet, and it looks like a mansion.
“We renovated the house in May last year, installed air conditioning and radiant floor heating. We used to provide guest rooms for tourists only on weekends in summer, now on everyday in the whole year.” Wang Guijun said .
As the tourism industry of village develops better, the life of Wang Guijun has also greatly changed. “One of my daughter-in-law is the scenic spot conductor. She can earn 2,000 yuan a month, and the other works in the scenic office, earns double her sister’s salary. Thanks to the development of tourism of the village, our family’s average annual income has risen from more than 10,000 yuan to over 40,000 yuan. We are living a real well-off life now.” Rejoiced Wang Guijun, “We spent money during the Spring Festival before, but now we earn money instead, it means a double income.”
More tourists came to the scenic spot and went shopping in Wang Guijun’s supermarket at noon, his daughter-in-law came home from work and gave him a hand, and Wang Guijun felt so happy about his life.
