All walks of life are thriving in the year of golden ox. A series of folklore activities were launched at the Old Dragon’s Head scenic spot in Shanhaiguan District, Qinhuangdao City from March 13 to 14 (from the first day to the second day of the second lunar month), to celebrate the Longtaitou Festival.

At the Laolongtou Scenic Spot, 18 dragon and lion dance performance teams from across Hebei Province gathered at the foot of the Laolongtou Great Wall for the Dragon and Lion Competition on Ice, to celebrate the auspicious Longtaitou Festival. They competed by means of required routines and optional routines, presenting citizens and tourists wonderful performances.

“Dragon and lion dance are intangible cultural heritage projects of Qinhuangdao City, which were popular among the local people. It is an honor to have this opportunity exchanging and competing with our peers from all over the province.” said Wei Yufeng, an inheritor of Qinhuangdao Dragon and Lion Dance Culture.

During the Longtaitou Festival, Shanhaiguan District also launched a series of traditional cultural activities, to carry forward and promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and meet the increasingly diverse cultural and sports needs of the people.
Visitors can appreciate lion dance and dragon dance at the First Pass under Heaven and the Old Dragon’s Head, and enjoy a series of folklore activities, such as touching the dragon head, cutting the dragon hair, eating the dragon food etc.. Citizens and tourists can appreciate traditional cultural performances, such as storytelling, folk art, and martial arts etc., and experience treasure hunting from Eight-Diagram tactics and performance of warrior battle led by Commander Qijiguang,
“Almost every year we come to the Old Dragon’s Head to celebrate the Longtaitou Festival. We booked tickets online for this celebration ahead of time, wishing good lucks in the new year, and we’ll be busy in the following days.” said Kong Lingning, a businessman from Huludao City, Liaoning Province, who drove his family to Shanhaiguan, joining the celebration of the Longtaitou Festival, and having a good time there.
