On June 12, the Shiguang Yinji (Time Imprint) Experience Hall of Qinhuangdao 1984 Cultural and Creative Industry Park invited children to make sachets in celebration of the upcoming Duanwu (Dragon Boat) Festival, they learned about the traditional Chinese medicines, and filled them into the sachets after weighing, grinding and mixing the herbs.
Sachets are also known as flower sacks or perfumed medicine bags. Wearing sachets is one of the important traditional customs of the ancients. The fragrance of herbs can ward off mosquitoes and plague, and the tradition of wearing sachets shows the people’s wishes for good health, safety and prosperity.
The children listened carefully to the teacher’s explanation of the history and culture of the sachet, and learned to identify the traditional Chinese medicines: angelica dahurica, calamus, ageratum, eupatorium, perilla, clove, mint, and mugwort. They filled them into the silk bags of different shapes after weighing, grinding and mixing the herbs, and the colorful sachets were finished. Photo by Wang Jijun
