On June 22, the 1st Qinhuangdao Navigation Culture Festival and the 8th Navigation Education Activity kicked off at the China Navigation Pharos Museum. This is the first cultural festival with the theme of “Navigation” in Qinhuangdao City, and also the first municipal-level maritime cultural festival held in Hebei province.
The festival is sponsored by Qinhuangdao Municipal Government and Hebei Maritime Safety Administration, and undertaken by Beihai Navigation Guarantee Center, Hebei Port Group, Qinhuangdao Civilization Office, Qinhuangdao Maritime Safety Administration, Qinhuangdao Navigation Pharos Office of Beihai Navigation Guarantee Center, Qinhuangdao Communication Center of Beihai Navigation Guarantee Center, Qinhuangdao Port Museum and Hebei Port Group Urban Construction Development Co., Ltd., aiming to enhance the cultural connotation of the city, promote navigation and water transportation safety, and create a good atmosphere for the society, school and family to care for the healthy growth of the youngsters.

The venues open for this event include the Qinhuangdao Port Museum, the Multifunctional Hall of the Westport Navigation Center, the personal space of the Olympic champion Xu Lijia, the course of the sailing knowledge, the Qinhuangdao Nanshantou Lighthouse, Nanshantou Radar Tower, and the navigation simulator of China Navigation Pharos Museum.
“Visitors will have fun with sailing while feeling the charm of the sport.” said Wang Yang, director of the Party and Mass Work Department of Qinhuangdao Maritime Safety Administration.

At 9 o’clock in the morning, about 150 teachers, students and their parents from Yaohua Primary School in Haigang District, Beifang Primary School in Beidaihe District, Dongshan Primary School in Haigang District of Qinhuangdao City, and private children’s education and training institutions were invited to participate in the launching ceremony of the cultural festival.
They paid visit in groups after watching the “Navigation Guardians”, the first stage play of the youngster maritime school produced by the Qinhuangdao Maritime Safety Administration.

“I have learned water safety knowledge and the history of century lighthouse, as well as the significance of marine protection. And I would like to be a “sea guardian” when I grow up.” said Wang Jingwen, a fifth-grade student in Beifang Primary School.

Qinhuangdao Nanshantou Lighthouse was built in 1900. Known as the “Century Lighthouse”, it is a comprehensive navigation aid facility with a history of more than 120 years. The new light sets relying on the Beidou system were installed in 2020, and the level of intelligence, the system compatibility, and the stability have been significantly improved.
The Nanshantou Radar Tower is China’s first radar station of port-shore-based navigation radar system introduced from abroad. It has used radar systems from Italy, Germany, and France. Since 2015, the radar station has undertaken the “incubation” mission of the domestic ship traffic management system and the new intelligent transportation organization platform research and development project, and has witnessed the Chinese ship traffic management system developing from nothing to two-dimensional, three-dimensional, informatization, intelligence, introduction from abroad, and the independent research and development.
The Navigation Simulator of the China Navigation Museum is a ship driving simulation operation platform composed of multiple subsystems such as ship maneuvering simulator and radar simulator.
It can simulate the actual control performance of various ships and speedboats according to the set parameters, providing operators with practical training and nautical simulation experience that meet the requirements of crew training and evaluation.
