With the approaching of the main flood season in summer, the Municipal Engineering Management Office of Haigang District, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province has strengthened large-scale maintenance of rainwater underground pipe network with machinery and scientific methods, focusing on the dredging of pipe network, puddles renovation, and pipeline network maintenance, to improve the ability of flood resistance and drainage in the urban roads, and protect the safety of the citizens during flood seasons.
Conducting large-scale renovation of puddles
To further improve the urban roads, underground rainwater pipe networks, urban flood control and drainage capabilities, and eliminate urban waterlogging, the Municipal Engineering Management Office of Haigang District conducted puddles renovation at the Hongqi Road (section from Moat to Heping Street),Taishan Road and the South Gate of Northeastern University, Hebei Street (section from the East Wall of Fisheries School to Xinkai River), Xingyuan Street (section from Haiyang Road to Renmin Road to Moat), based on the analysis of the topography, pipelines, and the water intakes, using new rain gutters, adding water inlets, and connecting rainwater pipes to handle waterlogging during the flooding season.
At present, the main construction of the overall renovation project of the four puddles has been completed, and the sidewalk restoration is ongoing.
Cleaning and dredging blocked rainwater pipe network with machinery
The Municipal Engineering Management Office of Haigang District conducted dredged the pipelines of 15 roads including Xigang Road, Youyi Road, Chenguang Street, Hongqi Road, and Xianfeng Road, and cleaned up the fallen leaves, mud and other solid debris in the rainwater collection wells, focusing on the underground rainwater pipe network within 1 km of the main puddles in the urban area, with pipe dredging vehicles, sludge transport vehicles, and sewage suction vehicles, breaking through the small-caliber pipes, crossing pipes, and blind pipes that are difficult to clean manually. They started the mission from the end of March and completed it in mid-June, a total of 108 kilometers of rainwater pipe network, and more than 8,000 rainwater wells and well covers were cleared.
Checking and maintaining pipeline network with scientific methods
The Municipal Engineering Management Office of Haigang District checked the underground rainwater pipes with all-terrain pipeline inspection robots, and established a special file. They conducted renovation and maintenance of underground pipelines, including adding more rainwater pipes near Haigang Public Security Bureau at the East Qinhuang Street, and repairing the broken pipes near the intersection of Hebei Street and Jianguo Road, while minimizing the traffic impact caused by road construction.
