On October 24, Gang Zhu Ao Bridge, which is known as the "super project" with a total length of about 55 kilometers, was officially opened to traffic. This world-famous project shows the wisdom of researchers and hard working of workers, including the technological achievements of Yanshan University's research team.
Qingzhou Waterway Bridge is one of the most important sections of Gang Zhu Ao Bridge. It is also the control project with the longest pile foundation, the highest tower and the farthest offshore construction area of the three navigation bridges of Gang Zhu Ao Bridge project.
The State Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials Preparation Technology and Science of Yanshan University and Wang Qingfeng's Research Group of Advanced Steel Materials Research Team of the National Cold Rolling Strip Engineering Technology Research Center cooperated with China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group Co., Ltd. to apply weathering resistant steel to the welding manufacturing of cable tower anchor box for the first time in China. Gang Zhu Ao Bridge is in a marine climate with high-temperature and high-humidity, which inevitably requires metal materials to have severe corrosion resistance. Weathering resistant steel can prevent corrosion with stable rust layer and meet the requirements of 120-year design life. In view of the difficulty in controlling the quality of welding metallurgy of weathering resistant steel and the difficulty in ensuring the corrosion performance of welds, the research team optimized the welding materials and welding processes, so that the welding metallurgical quality, joint mechanical properties and corrosion resistance have met the design requirements and ensured the key components not to be corroded in 120 years. This is the first time that weathering resistant steel has been used in domestic cross-sea bridge projects.
