At 8 am on May 12,
2019 Junlebao Qinhuangdao International Marathon & National Marathon Championship kicked off, more than 27,000 runners started at the Olympic Sports Center.
The event was jointly sponsored by Chinese Athletic Association, Hebei Sports Bureau and Qinhuangdao Municipal People's Government. It is the third station of the National Marathon Championship and one of the 17 Marathon Qualifying Competitions of “I want to go to the Olympic Games”.
There are full-running (42.195km) and mini-running (5km) in this event. 10,662 runners for full-running including 37 foreign runners from 12 countries including Ethiopia, Kenya and Germany, and 17,000 runners for mini-running including 8 foreign runners from South Korea, Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan registered on the official website of the competition. The number of participants has reached the highest level ever.
Around 8:30 in the morning, all the runners entered the official track one after another. In addition to professional runners, the mini-running events with the participation of the general public continue to be wonderful as usual with parents and children running, dress-up running, roller skating running, and other characteristic running groups appearing one after another. People cheered with delight and turned the track into a sea of joy.
The organizing committee also read out the proposal to support the Winter Olympic Games, calling on people to welcome the Beijing Winter Olympic Games with positive spirit, and support the success of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
In terms of the preparation work, there are more than 20,000 staff including referees, volunteers, medical and security personnel, and 22 fixed medical stations were set up for this event. The track is equipped with 24 ambulances, 88 medical personnel and 37 first aid runners, which can quickly cooperate with each other in case of the accident and ensure the safety of the runners in time.
After more than two hours of fierce competition, Alfred from Kenya won the first place of the men's team with the score of 2 hours 15 minutes and 44 seconds, 55 seconds ahead of the men’s best score in the 2018 Qinhuangdao International Marathon. The second place was Kenyan player Ezeki Kip, and another Kenyan player Evans Kipker won the third place.
Zhang Meixia, a Chinese player, won the first place of the women's group with the score of 2 hours 32 minutes and 21 seconds.
The second and third place was Chinese players Yao Miao and Bai Li, respectively.
Qinhuangdao International Marathon has been held for six consecutive sessions since 2014. A total number of more than 100000 participants are from 32 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and 18 countries in America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania. In the past five years, tourists have been directly driven to spend nearly 200 million yuan through the marathon, and more businessmen at home and abroad have been entering Qinhuangdao through participating in marathons, knowing Qinhuangdao and investing in Qinhuangdao. The event adheres to the concept of “passionate marathon, happy Qinhuangdao”, with the theme of “refueling for civilized city”, showing various urban elements, such as ecological construction, urban civilization and tourism culture and so on, and making contributions to build a strong coastal city, beautiful port city and international city.
