Plastic waste pollution is the environmental issue widely concerned across the world. At the 14th Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention, held in Switzerland recently, more than 180 countries in the world revised the Convention and decided to include plastic waste in import and export restrictions, which declares the war to the export of plastic waste, and draws sword to the global plastic pollution transfer mode.
For a long time, developed countries such as the United States have often exported mixed toxic plastic waste labeled with “recyclable” to the developing countries due to the considerations of processing costs. In fact, these garbages are difficult to recycle, or can not recycle at all, they are dumped, burned or thrown to the ocean, and cause great harm to the ecological environment. According to the revised agreement, once they got the information that plastic waste entered the developing countries, they have the right to refuse, which means it will be history for developed countries to export plastic waste “secretly” to developing countries.
On July 27, 2018, the activity of cleaning marine garbage themed with “Cherish golden sand and protect blue sea together” was held in Jinmeng Bay, Qinhuangdao, Hebei. Volunteers from all walks of life worked together to clean up all kinds of discarded net ropes, cages, plastic garbage, etc., and called on the society to pay attention to the protection of marine ecology.
