July and August are the tourist peak season in Qinhuangdao City, which is also the breeding season of jellyfish in shallow sea, and the high-incidence of stinging by jellyfish. Recently, jellyfish appeared in the waters of Qinhuangdao.
Tourists for summer vacation are frequently stung by jellyfish.
A few days ago, Xiao Wang, who was swimming at the beach, suddenly felt the pain in his shin, and was rushed to Qinhuangdao Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital for treatment.
The emergency doctor diagnosed that Xiao Wang’s right leg was stung by jellyfish, and there were severe redness and whip-like wounds. He was treated with sodium bicarbonate for wound healing, and then the traditional Chinese medicine treatment was used for external application. The miracle happened tree hours later-- the wound was much better, and the persistent pain clearly subsided, and Xiao Wang felt relieved.
Although there is little chance of sting by jellyfish,
We shall beware of it when playing on the beach.
What should we do after sting by jellyfish?
1.Self aid
Once stung by jellyfish, you should promptly wash the wound with seawater in time, do not use fresh water, because it will stimulate the hidden nematocyst. It’s not suitable for ice compress, but can be soaked in warm water. It is not advisable to wipe with towels and so on. Large tentacles can be removed with tweezers and other tools. Rescuers should wear gloves to avoid being stung themselves. Soak or wet the wound area with 5% acetic acid (or vinegar) as soon as possible for at least 30 minutes until the pain disappears.
2.Bathing beach rescue station
Rinse with 5%-10% sodium bicarbonate (or saturated alum solution) and wet with sodium bicarbonate solution, each time for more than half an hour, several times a day, or apply externally with calamine lotion or hormone ointment.
In the following eight cases, it is recommended to stay in the hospital for closely observation:
1.Allergies 2. The skin is extensively damaged and the local allergic reaction is serious. 3. Fever. 4. Chest tightness and shortness of breath. 5. Blood pressure drops. 6. Arrhythmia. 7. Nausea, vomiting. 8. Poor spirit, irritability or other complications.
3.Outpatient treatment
From July 1, 14 medical institutions of Qinhuangdao sent an ambulance and three medical staff to carry out medical patrol along nearly 100-kilometer beach from 9 am to 10 pm every day, organizing rescue and transferring patients to hospitals for treatment. In July, a total of 595 patients were treated by the patrol teams, an increase of 58% over the same period last year.
